Eating More

Life is good. I got a nice sun spot in my comfy bed today. I also got my Fancy Feast and Friskies back. Mom isn't thrilled, but she is relieved.

Karen Jo: You scared me half to death, Herman. You stopped eating altogether on Sunday. You wouldn't even eat the chicken I fixed just for you, even though it was chopped up in tiny pieces and still warm from being cooked. When I got home from work and you still hadn't eaten anything, I gave you a pouch of food that you used to like as a treat and you finally started eating again.

I decided that I didn't like that I/D stuff after all. I don't know why I didn't want the chicken.

Karen Jo: Thank goodness that you are eating just about normally again. I called the vet and they said to just give you your regular food, try to get the pro-biotic into you and bring you in on Wednesday.

I don't want to go to the vet again.

Karen Jo: We have to get the poop puddles stopped somehow, and you are not co-operating.

Hey, I'm a cat. We are not known for co-operation. For instance, I know when you have adulterated my Stinky Goodness with that pro-biotic stuff and I won't eat it.

Karen Jo: I noticed. You ate early breakfast all up, refused second breakfast with the pro-biotic, then ate up all the food I gave you to last you until I got home from work before I even got out the door, so I gave you some more, which you had eaten by the time I got home. Maybe if I put the pro-biotic in the food I leave you when I go to work, you will get hungry enough to eat it before I get home.

I doubt it.

Karen Jo: If you won't eat your pro-biotic in your Stinky Goodness, then the vet and I will have to figure out some other way to get it into you. I have had some ideas and your friends have given me some more in the comments. The vet lady has already mentioned a paste which I scrape into your mouth.

That doesn't sound good.

Karen Jo: If you don't want to get your pro-biotic in a more unpleasant way, then just eat it in your Stinky Goodness. You are going to get it, one way or another.

Oh, oh, Herman! Mom sounds like she means business on this pro-biotic stuff...Might be easier to just suck it up and eat the food with it mixed in.
Got to get the poop puddles stopped and the visits to the vet are going to continue until they are, so join the program.

Herman, we are glad to hear you are eating better but you need to take your probiotic! It is better to take it willingly!

Oh Herman! Getting crafty isn't going to help your tum mend (can't say I blame you about the I/D though) But I'm very glad that you are eating more. Pro-Kolin paste is palatable (kinda beef flavour) - Some cats will lick it off of a human finger. It has probiotics in it and kaolin which is for runny poops. When Angel's tum was playing up, she got a sprinkle capsule of Synbiotic D-C every day in her food. She ate it up ok, so it can't have tasted too bad. It has Pro and Pre-biotics in it. The apes got it from the vet. The stuff inside the capsule can be dissolved in water so could be syringed into your mouth. Sorry Herman, I'm not meaning to be a traitor by suggesting this stuff, but we all want you eating up your medicine so you can be back to full strength again! :)

So glad to hear you are eating again! Now to get those poop puddles under control! I believe Cal was on Metronidazole (sp?) and it helped his a little. Hopefully the vet can get you straightened out very soon!!!

Herman I am glad to hear that you are eating a little but you do need to get those poop puddles under control. And the Metronidazole is a great idea. Hope the vet can come up with a solution for you. Good luck. Have a great day.

Poor Herman! I was giving Annie Purina's FortiFlora for a while, and sprinkling the leftovers on the boys' canned food too, and they LOVED it. Wish I could have kept them on it, frankly, because that was the only time Derry really ever went for the canned food.

Are there other probiotics Herman can try? Something tastier, I mean.

We know that you're a cat and as a cat we're allowed to be stubborn, but your Mom is helping you, Herman!

Hey Herman, you sure look handsome in the sunpuddle! I would be if your Mom could stabilize you on the same food or foods that the poop puddles would go away. Some of us have sensitive systems anyways and the constant change in food upsets our systems. We're purring for it to be figured out. You gotta get your meds though, one way or the other!

Hold out for the really really tasty food Herman. Maybe she'll give you some homemade kefir or yogurt. I love those! Course it's easier if they get it with raw milk and not all states allow it, but still--I love being a taste tester...

Well, at least you are eating. But you really do need to take your medicine, Herman. Your mom gives it to you because she loves you and wants you to be healthy and happy.

Oh Herman, I am so worried for you. I keep hoping that your tummy troubles will go away. Poor Mommy Karen Jo, you must be so concerned! You are doing a great job with Herman. Sometimes it just takes a while to get the flora where it needs to be in the digestive tract. Please try to eat Herman!
You are only two like Toeshee? It's such a great age for a kitty! Thank you for coming to his party.
I will keep holding you and your mommy in my thoughts and heart, okay? I hope you got the feather butt mousie I sent you.
I will keep coming by to see how you and Mommy are doing, sweetie.
Hugs,
Lorianna

Have yoor mom ask about feeding yoo something like Natures Balance Green pea and Duck, it's an alternative protein/carbo source and da only thing dat helped Speedy's poop puddles dat we all three will eat. Sometimes we is just sensitif to other protein sources or da additives in da food. It took mom almost 4 years to find a food dat din't have any fillers/grain/food colors to stop da skwirties and tasted good enuff dat effurycat would eat it. Dey make stinky goodness too!

Herman we are so glad you are eating again - we had the same thing when Floyd was on the special diet - he didn't want it because it was too bland so we went back to his fancy feast and he ate fine. I wish you would eat the second breakfast with the probiotic though. I think maybe your mom could try it in a bit of baby food - all the cats I know love that stuff and will eat anything in it. And we wish you didn't have to go to the vet but we are glad you do go for now because we want you to get better - ok!

You could find a compounding pharmacy in your area, Karen Jo. They can make meds very appealing for pets as well as kids nowadays.
