Going to the Vet

For some reason the fact that I keep a little curl in the end of my tail amuses my Mom no end. She even took a picture of it today. Mom is being mean to me again. She didn't give me my sardine at all. I asked and asked for it and I know that she has lots of them, but she wouldn't give me one.

Karen Jo: You are still making poop puddles, Herman, so I decided to just give you your cat food and see if that helps. There is something worse coming for you, too, I'm afraid.

What could be worse than not getting my sardines?

Karen Jo: You are going to the vet as soon as I can get an appointment for you. I saw your foster Mom at the store today and she agreed that you needed to go, so we can find out what is going on with your digestive system. She said that once diarrhea gets started in kitties with leukemia, it can be hard to stop it.

I don't want to go the the vet. The last time I was there, they stole my fur.

Karen Jo: You might get some more stolen this time, too. You are getting mats in your chest fur and I can't seem to brush them out. It won't be so bad, Herman. We just need to find out what I need to do to get you well again.

But I am better today. I even played with my nip ball a little while you were at work.

Karen Jo: I noticed that, but you didn't move it very far. I was glad to see that you had moved it at all, though. You still need to go so we can get you better. You don't like making poop puddles, do you?

No. After I go, will I get my sardines back?

Karen Jo: We'll see what the vet says about it. If she says it's OK, then you will get your sardines again.

Oh, I hope that she says that it's OK for me to eat sardines.

I like your tail curl, Herman. Be a brave guy and cooperate about the Vet visit - those vet guys are very knowledgeable about a lot of stuff. I hate the ride in the car more than I dislike being at the Vet. What do you think about the car?

I'm betting that the poop problems is coming from the sardines. They are really loaded with oil. Also a diet of tuna, if it's people tuna isn't really that good. Tuna is loaded with mercury which is ok if its only eaten once a week, but a constant diet isn't that great (so said my vet after I bragged about how good I was to my cats.) Either Iams or science diet makes a moist food for cats with sensitive tummies. You might want to try him on it. You can purchase it from the vet

Hope the vet can figure out what's wrong, Herman. Have you tried a slow switch to a high quality food? Not sure what the problem is, but something really good might help (natural, meat based, no corn, no by-products). Everett was having similar problems after he came home and a steady diet of just Wellness (mostly canned is better for them, but we do dry too)seems to have helped. We're careful not to ever give him anything else unless it's really small and we watch for any adverse reaction after.

Poor Herman, I hope the vet can figure out what is ailing your poor tum. We agree about a switch to a grain/cereal/soya free wet food. You have many to choose from over there. Sometimes those things in foods can really irritate our insides. There's a very good food supplement called L-Lysine which could help Herman cope with his FeLv status and keep his immune system strong. Enisyl-F is one brand which we have heard is very good. It boosts the immune system and many vets recommend it. Sardines are a very rich food and they might just be too rich for you Herman. We've used a fish oil supplement called Mirra Coat in the past for foster cats who have had dry coats from a lack of oils. It contains arachidonic acid which really helps the coat. There is a prescription wet food from Royal Canin called Sensitivity Control which only has rice gluten (no wheat or corn) that helped our Angel's digestive system, it's very gentle and comes in duck and chicken flavours too. We suggest that because it also has a prebiotic in it.

Hope you feel much better soon Herman, your Mommy loves you very much.

It's going to be okay Herman, it only seems like the trip to the vet is bad while it is happening, but it's usually over pretty quick. Mom loves you and you need to get checked out!

Better safe than sorry, Herman. Gandalf can no longer eat the foods he likes because of his FLUTD. And not one of us have ever even had sardines. We bet they are very yummy!

We know about dem runny poops in dis house! Speedy haf had effurything from watery/mucusy/bloody dire rear to chocolate pudding poops fur his whole life! Now mom slowly switched us all over to something called Natural Balance Green Pea and Duck and his poops is getting more solid. He haf lots of food sensitivities and even some really 'spensive foods made him sicky. Dis new food haf no grains or colors in it and since duck is kinda a greasy bird our furs is soft and shiny now.

Herman we know it isn't fun to go to the vet but hopefully he can make you feel better - that is the most important thing! Sending you lots and lots of get well purrs!

Oh Herman, I'm so sad to hear that you are having tummy troubles! I'm sure the VET will be able to sort it out. I know your Mommy loves you and is probably quite worried. Maybe you just need some different kind of food. If you do, be nice and not fussy about them okay? You need to stop the poo puddles.
Cody has had them after taking medicine for hairballs and when I gave him tuna with oil. (oops!)
Cricket had the opposite problem and couldn't poo and she had to get an enema!
You kitties have fussy digestive systems for sure, but we love you anyway.
Sending healing hugs and purrs your way,
Lorianna
